How many times have you heard people say, "drink 8 glasses of water a day?" A million, right? But why? How is this going to help you and how the heck are you going to drink 8 boring glasses of water per day? We all know that our bodies are made up of tons of water, so why drink more? Well, our bodies are made up of a lot of water, but also need it to function properly. All of the organs in the body- including your brain- need water to run smoothly and to keep you going. Eight glasses of water may seem like a lot, especially if right now you're thinking that you don't even finish the small water bottle that you bring to work.
Start by adding in 1 extra glass of water per day and slowly increase from there. Other ways to increase water intake would be to add some flavor to the water with lemon, or any fruit really. You could try adding in a glass of water before each meal. If you're finding it really hard and you get to the end of the day and realize you forgot to add those extra glasses in, try getting a large jug (cheap option is a rinsed out mild jug) and draw lines on it with times. At those times, you should be down that much water. Keep this on your desk at work or wherever you will see it.
In terms of weight loss, water can also be super useful. Many times, our bodies will confuse thirst with hunger, so instead of having a glass of water, we will reach for snacks. Next time before reaching for those snacks, try having a glass of water, waiting 15 minutes and see how you feel!
